I have a new Macbook Pro and want to use the install discs it came with in my wifes older Macbook pro. I've been told there is a way to get the older model to accept the install, can someone please walk me through it?

If both machine are running tiger, then it will not make a difference. Each machine can be updated to the latest OS X update.

If you want to try and use the new restore discs in the old macbook:
A. Put disc one in and hit restart.
B. While laptop is rebooting, hold "C" key down to boot from CD.
C. load the OS X
D. it may or may not take the new disc. It will tell you if it will not work.

Since you have not given much info, this is all I can guess on for now.

What you may be able to do is hook the two machines up via a Firewire cable, boot the older one in Target Disk mode, and then drop the disk into the newer machine. You can then install OS X to the target disk

Note: Instructions by Towhead regarding using install discs on other computers was removed.
