My security setting is set to "Allow apps from anywhere" yet it still verifies some apps before opening and asks me every single time I open them if I want to open them. I can understand asking the first time, which is what the old behavior was, but it asks me EVERY SINGLE TIME if I want to open an app.

That's quite odd. I only see that notification on new apps, or existing apps that have been updated.

Big Sur has never had the setting under Security & Privacy for Allow Apps From Anywhere. That was depreciated with the launch of Catalina, which never had it either. The lowest setting is Allow Apps From App Store & Identified Developers. The apps you are saying keep doing this are clearly from unknown developers.

The setting is still available in Big Sur (and Catalina). Apple simply removed the button from the Preferences app, but the setting itself is still available. You just have to know how to make it show up (see screenshot below).

To get the setting to show in your Security Preferences, type the following in the Terminal, hit return, and enter your user password:
Code:
sudo spctl --master-disable

I stand somewhat corrected. I should have stated "by default". Almost a little surprised that it's still there with a Terminal command, but that's quite interesting. Good to know!

I suspect this little "hack" will be around for one, possibly two, more OS upgrades before Apple blocks our ability to do it.

I just update to Big Sur and it wants to verify all of my Adobe apps even though they are allowed. I tried to follow the hack above but the place where I type in my password is locked with a key. Can someone help me get past this? Thank you!

UPDATE - I figured this out. Its good to know that this group is here though!
