Hey all i have a clamshell laptop that looks as if someone had some fun with a sharpie on the bottom and top. i got the marker off the lid (white part) but the colored part it doesn't want to come off. any ideas on what to use? i have tried an alcohol swab, armor all orange wipe, and finger nail polish remover. nothing seems to want to completely remove the marker. any help is greatly appreciated.

^ yeah i was just reading about that in another thread. that will take it right off.

i also read that somewhere a while back and thought i tried that before and it didn't work, i'll try it again and see what happens but i doubt it will, worst case senerio i have some extra cleaning supplies :)

try scribbling on top of it with a dry erase marker and then cleaning that off

that's what I did with my White iBook and now it's as clean as

um

My MBP.

or something.

but seriously I know it sounds dumb but really.

Rubbing alcohol should do the job pretty well. Just try it out on a very small section to make sure it won't eat away at the computer.

i have tried the following with no luck

armor all orange wipes
alcohol wipes 70% isopropyl (can't find anything higher percent)
goo gone gel spray
a pencil eraser
finger nail polish remover
and the supposed awesome magic eraser (didn't do a thing)

anyone actually have experience taking this stuff off? i'm ready to throw these lime ibooks out the window

ok the magic eraser works on the white parts but not the colored parts at all. i know that there is something out there that will take it off. the goo gone and nail polish remover made the white parts look dull (used test parts thank god)

i'm going to try paint thinner, witch hazel (saw it by the alcohol), and probably some simple green and report back. I'm still taking suggestions.

This might sound a bit odd, but when i accidently got some marker on my macbook, i found the best thing was some hairspray, sprayed onto some kitchen towel...worked like a charm!

Never tried it on a clamshell - but hope it works for you!

This might be a stupid question, but did you wet the Mr. Clean magic eraser when you used it? It must be wet for it to work.

LOL yeah i did wet it, the thing is that the surface of the colored part is not slick like the white parts or like a dual usb is. that's what the problem is i'm going to try a few more then just give up and buy new parts.
