I have many screens filled with formerly viewed websites that appear on Safari occasionally. See screenshot below:

What do I do to delete all these and many more?

Thanks for your assistance!

With Safari open, tap the Safari icon in the dock again. Now you should see all open windows. You can swipe them up to remove the window. - You can do the same from the general multitasking switcher, but app Exposé Is a good way of seeing all windows (and opening a new one with plus icon In top right.

Thanks for the quick response. The upward swipe got rid of the open windows. Now, I'd like to find a setting or other technique that keeps those windows from being saved in the first place.

So, if you have that answer for me, I'd appreciate it very much!

Thanks again.

Well, how do you use it? Usually, unless you explicitly open another window, Safari would only use a single window.

Closest thing I can get you is a setting to automatically close tabs after they've been open for a day, a week or a month without use. I'd assume if a window has no open tabs the window goes away too, but I haven't tested that.

The multiple windows are meant to be there only when explicitly created by the user.
