I have an Android phone now but when all my friends with iOS5 send me a message it still defaults as an iMessage since I used to have an iPhone 4. Is there a way to get it to change to a text message without them having to turn off iMessage completely?

I fail to see the significance of this. If you have an Android phone you get a text message. You're not part of the iMessage game. Why it bothers you...?

They said they used to have an iPhone with iMessage, so friends phones are still trying to use iMessage first. It's a known quirk.

Oh I see what you're saying now....I guess it would come down to apple purging email addresses of users who have not used iMessage for a month or something. That, or something magical.
