How do I go legit?

I want to sign up for a regular AT&T contract, so I want to put my iPhone back to factory state (locked, standard firmware). I've got a 3.9 bootloader, originally 1.1.1 unlocked with AnySim 1.1 -> upgraded to 1.1.2 -> unlocked with AnySim 1.2.1u. Is there a way to restore my phone back to factory state so that I don't have to worry about future firmware updates messing up my phone?

I've searched around the web and know about The Virginizer, but posts have said that's only for phones that were messed up going from 1.02 to 1.1.1.

Just plug it into iTunes and let iTunes restore the phone to the default firmware and software, then let it upgrade the phone to 1.1.3.

Back to normal as they say.

Does this mean that if I get an iPhone, jailbreak and unlock it, use it with a Sim card from my current cellphone (I'm in Canada), that if in the future a Canadian carrier offers iPhone, I can still activate with them?

Also, what happens with the Apple warranty if it's unlocked and jailbroken? If it needs repair, can you just reset it to original factory OTB settings, and bring it in to an apple store without them knowing what you have been doing?

As long as it is software related and easily changed to a factory status, I believe it is still covered under Apple's warranty.
Physical modifications aren't covered under any warranty, however.

Do you mean I should restore back to 1.1.1 and then update to 1.1.3? Will that wipe out Anysim and let me update to future firmwares without worrying about bricking?

Or just restore to 1.1.3. You could use "upgrade", but if you want to remove all the traces of stuff you may as well restore. Going to 1.1.3 will give you a fresh baseband which will remove the AnySIM modifications.

You are correct in that if you didn't use AnySIM <1.1 or iUnlock etc, you don't need to "re-virginize". Later versions of AnySIM just patch the current baseband.

Thanks a lot for the advice; I wasn't sure what to do because I remember what happened with earlier Anysims and people bricking their phones when they updated. All the guides I've read have been about hacking, but none have said how to reverse anything.

Sorry, iPhone noob here. How do you restore a phone? Is that a setting in iTunes?
