post up more specs of your mini. the intels have 2 slots which already has been discussed that installing 2x 2gbs, all 4gb will show but only 3gb will be addressed.

Specs:

2Ghz C2D 4MB Shared L2 cache
1GB DDR2 SDRAM
120GB HD
SuperDrive
Intel GMA 950 graphics processor

Purchased 12/26/07 in an Apple Store

I'd like to add as much as possible to the RAM...

Yours supports 3 GB of memory max. The best upgrade you should do is get a pair of 2 GB memory sticks to gain dual-channel ability. Granted, the Mini will only see 3 GB of the 4 GB installed but its worth it. Plus, getting 2 GB sticks is cheap these days anyway.

Really? Why is that? There must be some kind of difference in the types of RAM I have vs what you are recommending otherwise it wouldn't make sense to get rid of the perfectly good 1G that I already have. Help me understand...

He is saying that your Mini can only utilize 3.3Gb BUT if you install a pair of matching 2GB sticks then you gain the advantage of dual channel memory. If you keep your 1GB stick you will only be able o add a 2GB stick which will give you 3GB total memory but not the advantage of dual channel since they won't be a matched pair.

Here is the breakdown:

1-Keep exiting 1GB, add 2GB. Total memory is 3GB but not dual channel.
2-Remove existing 1GB and add (2) 2GB sticks, Mini will use 3.3GB but will be dual channel.

Overall you don't gain much available memory (3.3GB vs 3GB) but the dual channel is said to offer a performance advantage. And as stated memory is so cheap that the (2) 2GB sticks are the way to go.

I think at least some mini come with 512MB x 2 (Apple store specifically lists this), not 1GB x 1 on the RAM. So a 2GB stick will net you 2.5GB.
