Hello, good afternoon!

A few days ago I bought some second hand AirPods Max.

When I took them out of the box they automatically connected to my iPhone 14 Pro. I tried them out and they worked great.

I've been trying them out for a few days now and have had some doubts about whether they are really original.

For starters, they don't link to my iMac M1 or my Apple TV 4K. All updated to their latest versions. They try to connect, but fail to do so.

The AirPods Max are not upgraded. They are on version 5B58. I leave the iPhone nearby and charging and the AirPods charging, but they don't update. At least not after 30min/1h. I keep getting the same firmware.

I've tried factory resetting them, but with the combination of pressing the
combination of pressing the 2 buttons at the same time, they don't seem to do anything. I have been watching videos of how to reset them and in all of them, it appears that the bottom led should turn yellow and after about 15 seconds, it would turn white again. In my case, that does not happen. I press the two buttons all the time and the led never stops being white. At no time does it turn yellow.

This all makes me wonder, but when I have the AirPods Max connected to the iPhone, I get a correct serial number and with Apple Care covered until May 2025. I also checked the serial number under the left pad. It appears to be correct.

I don't know what to think. I'm about to go to a Store and have it verified.

Thanks!!!

You should be able to use the Apple online serial number checker to see if it is a valid serial number and if it has been replaced with another, if that is the case then the counterfeiter is using a previously replaced valid serial number. I ran into this issue once with a pair of Beats PowerBeats Pro.

Thank you for your response.

Yesterday I was able to confirm that the AirPods Max are counterfeit. I watched different YouTube videos showing the differences between the originals and the fake ones, and although these, look like originals, they are not.

I imagine they are using a fake serial number or from another product and so it looks like it has Apple Care in effect.

Again, thank you very much for your response.
