There are so many models of iPad, I think i've got an iPad 4, it's the retina one with lightning connector. But have read only the mini and air get most of the new features. I thought the mini was the same or lower spec than the iPad 4.

I can't get the two apps thing or picture in picture, and searching around, most sites say that's only for the iPad mini and air. Even the link above.

Reading more on that link, there's nothing much of interest for slightly older iPads. Apple do like to drop support for stuff that's only a few years old.

True enough. It does seem that this time around iPad 4 and earlier have basically got a few tweaks but otherwise been left standing. And I'd guess that will continue going forward. Does seem a bit quick to drop 'new feature' support for expensive relatively recent machines but I guess everything is being written for 64bit and the machines with co-processors these days. I've got an Air so get some of it but my wife & mum have a 3 and a 2 so will got none of the good new stuff.

Technologies evolve quickly. It seems they're getting new chips for every release so with integration it seems progress evades our older ones. Believe me, I'm on an iPad 2...
Although, I do have to say, it does seem somewhat tricky to get the split screen multi tasking going.
I found this to maybe help... http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/fea...en-multitasking-and-picture-in-picture-741244
