Hello everyone, so I am making my menu in pages, I love some of the templates that they have in there, and lots of nice objects, but I cannot seem to find a way to make my own, or find them for sale.
what I am looking for is like torn off strips of brown paper.does that make sense? they need to be in a rectangular shape. anyway, if anyone has any isight, I would appreciate it. I am looking for some instruction on how to make, or any that are for sale to purchase, or even if there are free ones ;-)

thanks everyone!

Are you using Photoshop? If so I would google torn paper and how to make brown paper and combine the two.

Found this one on how to do town paper in Photoshop. I don't know if you are using just Pages or if you are using another program and then bringing those files into Pages.

thanks everyone!

I tried using that picture site, but i couldn't make anything the right size, I am going to try the scanner idea at kinkos. ill let you know how it goes

thanks again!

i always laugh when designers spend tons of time trying to create something so basic from scratch.

scan a real piece, or shoot a digi photo. done.

its fast, realistic, and original work.

the problem stems from people getting "stuck" in the software and completely forgetting about any other medium.

What the... scan? photograph? TRUE designers create everything from scratch in their always current CS3 setup! :D

Just Kidding. Yes, scan the real thing... it always looks the best.

i know you're in pages, but if you wanted to do it in photoshop heres how.

-fill a layer with black, having your foreground and background set to B&W
-Filter>render>clouds
this will give you a page with black and white clouds.
- Filter>stylize>emboss
keep the height down and the amount up, now it will look like grey paper
-Image>adjustment>hue/saturation
click colorize, mess with the saturation and hue levels until you get a desired brown
- after that what you should do if you're not that familiar would be draw a desired strip size and shape with the lasso tool inside that paper layer. once you have the shape hit command/j- thats short for layer>new>layer via copy. now you have strips. add some layer styles (fx) like a small drop shadow, soften the shadow edge and change its color. fool with it until you like it

I am going to try this, I do not have a scanner, so my best option i think is to create it. i hope I can get the good crumpled paper look

let me know if you don't get it to work... or if you do. i could possibly help you out face to face with the torn edges part.

Good luck
