How do I make my dock clear?

I've been searching but can't get past what I have- a translucent grey.

I've tried mirage-dock (?) or- InvisibleDock, but I can't figure it out.

I just want my icons and signals that an app is running. I don't want a mirror effect either.

How do I just make the dock's background disappear?

Not sure, but I think CandyBar does this

If you are on Snow Leopard, then you need a slightly different version of Mirage Dock but once you have it set up it works beautifully, see attached image.
