How do i make my MBP a little faster

when you first got it, it did not "take a sec" to boot up. 30 seconds actually sounds quite reasonable. rather than base your observations on boot up times, you should look at the applications you use. are they slower than they were before?

are you talking from pushing the button and hearing the dinging noise, to being on your desktop ready to go?
cause the grey screen for me takes between 30-45 seconds before i see the blue background with the osx picture and progress bar

or

after the grey screen, when it slides the little blue bar across the little osx picture...cause that usually only takes a few seconds, and its thats taking a while, yeah try repairing permissions, maybe try resetting the pram, that usually speeds boot up..up

if you're tlaking about the whole boot process, power button push to desktop, id have to say you were only sleeping before not shut down

I agree that 30 seconds is totally normal. I remember a thread a while back where someone was worried about a slow boot up, it was a minute or more, and a bunch of people responded with their boot up times and most people were saying 30 seconds, a few were saying 45, but no one said anything much faster than 30 seconds.

"a sec" sounds like coming back from sleep. Unless you're using a hibernate or sleep function, 30 seconds seems reasonable.

Oh noooo 30 sec!!!!

BUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Anything under 5 min (what every one of my Windows machines takes to boot) and I'm happy. I can literally turn on my MPB and my wifes Dell Inspiron at the same time (cold boot) and I'm surfing the web before her machine has even asked which user she is. Even at one minute, OSX machines (the few I've used) boot considerably faster than ANY windows machine I've EVER used (including my Xeon workstation @ work).

My MPB usually takes under 45sec to cold boot to desktop. Sometimes longer (very noticable first cold boot after an update).

Short answer, I wouldn't worry about it

My MBP took about 2-3 minutes to start up on a restart (no, I didn't just update it). It could be the fact that I have the 160gb hdd down to about 10gb eh? As soon as I get an external, I'm moving stuff to it and starting fresh again. I liked the 30 sec. boot time.

whoa thats crazy. try fixing permissions and running some manual maintenance scripts as well as clearing your font and application font cache (and i guess any other cache you can find that seems safe to wipe wouldn't hurt either). hell, even try resetting pram. Also if you have bootcamp try adding a .metadata_never_index to the directory if you don't want spotlight to index it at startup (you can also do this with your externals). Also having too many fonts installed simultaneously will serioiusly slow your bootup and some program load ups... persnally 500 seems to be working fine with me and i manage the rest with font explorer x. i can't imagine 2 to 3 minutes without an update, if all else failed, I personally would format my whole computer and reinstall, lol.

My macbook used to boot up in like 30 seconds when I first got it, and now it takes like one minute. I always repair permissions, run my scripts, etc.. and it still takes too long to boot up. Anyone else have any other tips for speeding up a cold boot time?

Put a flat battery in your clocks. Makes time slow down.

At one point I found that start up was taking longer than it used to. The cause was that I'd accidently made one of the apps 'open at login'. Once I turned that off again it was fine. 30 seconds is great though.
