I can see all my iCloud drive files in the Files app on my iPad Pro. However, when I try to open a Word document from it, it launches Google drive instead, so no luck there. If I open the Word app directly, and tap Open, I can see iPad as a location, but there are no files under it.

So how do I open the Word file with Word?

Cheers,

Kim

Tapping on a Word File should bring up a preview in Files. At that point you can use the share sheet to open in Word. Unfortunately Microsoft have not caught up with the possibilities of 2 years ago yet and still only have a “Copy to Microsoft Word”, rather than an open in, so you will unfortunately have an orphaned copy and would have to be careful to manually save it back over the original if that’s what you want. While that’s not the end of the world, it’s much more painful than it’s needed to be for years.

I left Microsoft feedback in TestFlight about their continued failure to adapt to the platform yesterday.

Hi!

I don’t get a preview when tapping the file, Google opens immediately...but apparently a long press gives me an option to share. And there’s, just as you mentioned, Copy to Word...

Cheers,

Kim

There was another thread here I believe. It's a google Drive error with their app, you have to uninstall it to go back to normal operation of Files.

Right. I saw that, but I didn’t put 2 and 2 together. Apparently not just an issue in iOS 11 either.
