Hi, I am hoping you can help me with this problem! It is all me - I don't know how to do this.

We have a family Apple Music subscription. Any music played is on my Apple ID. I have 2 HomePods and various devices.

Here is the scenario that I mess up frequently lol - HomePod in the Dining Room....my wife says Hey Siri play Jimmy Buffet...and off she goes. I am in my office on the upper floor, I pick up my iPad, tap Apple Music, and instead of it showing the playlist I was last playing, it's showing the album cover of the Jimmy Buffet album playing, and the lower left corner says "Dining Room", where the HomePod is. No matter what I do I end up either stopping the music on the HomePod or replacing it with what I want to play on my iPad.

For example, tapping the "target" icon in the lower lefthand seeing the Airplay list, tapping iPad there seems to replace or stop what's playing. Or, I tap in that list on "iPad", it stops playing on the HomePod and moves the music to my iPad. The same thing happens if I slide down the top right corner, and tap on the target there. When I just bring up Apple Music, it shows the album cover and says "Dining Room", where the HomePod is - I can't get it to show my device.

With our family membership I know we can play different songs on different devices, if I walk to the two HomePods and say softly "Hey Siri, play..." it works. So, given all this:

1. With one playlist playing on HomePod in Dining Room;
2. I pick up my iPad, and the album cover shows what is playing on the HomePod in the dining room;
3. Also, in the lower left hand corner of the Apple Music app it says "Dining Room"

How do I start to play another playlist on my iPad without disturbing what's playing on the HomePod in the Dining room (or any other device showing up in the Airplay list)?

THANK YOU! (wifey gets p.o.'d when I keep messing with her playlist playing lol)

I struggled with this at first, but here's what I do:
  1. Swipe down to show the Control Center.
  2. Long press the now playing/media controls in the upper-right corner.
  3. Tap 'Control Other Speakers & TVs'.
  4. Tap the device you want to control/play music on.
  5. Tap again to open Apple Music for that device.
