How do I prevent iMac Preview & QuickTime from trying to opening files when the app is launched

I am Running Mojave 10.14.5 on my iMac and Sierra 10.12 on my MacBook Pro.

Every time I open Preview or QuickTime, it goes looking for a file to open.

I know there is a way of preventing the apps of doing this, as I have done it before. But for the life of me, I cannot find any information about it.

The open dialogue shows up only if you are syncing these apps with iCloud. You have to untick those apps in System Preferences under iCloud Drive if you don't need that feature.

Thank you so much! I was going nuts looking how to do this. Minimal but very annoying since I use these apps all the time!
