How do I put Safari bookmarks into folders?

I am running High Sierra v. 10.13.6 and want to put some of my Safari bookmarks into folders. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to find instructions on the Web, but nothing seems to work. Dragging and dropping has no effect at all. The folders remain empty. Getting desperate. Any assistance welcome. Thanks in advance.

O.K. Sorted. I hadn't realised that it was done via the Bookmarks menu.

Orinoco, would love to know why you wanted put the bookmarks into folders and how you exactly you accomplished it. Maybe that is something I should do, and, if it is, would like to know how. Thanks.

As Orinoco said - It is done via the Bookmarks menu, specifically "Edit Bookmarks
Click the "New folder" button in the upper right corner, or right-click any item in the bookmarks list. change the name to something you like, then drag the folder into another folder, or whatever you want to do.
Experiment with a new folder, drag it around, delete it, etc. You can drag a folder into a folder into another folder, multiple levels, if that's your preference. There's lots of possibilities for bookmarks folders.

Aha! I thought this had to do with folders like in Finder! Or moving the Bookmarks into something other than/more than Bookmark folders. Can that be done? On the other hand, moving things around in Bookmarks sort of makes it another kind of library that I hadn't thought about. Thank you!

Thanks for the interest. It was just a case of my Favourites list growing rather unwieldy. This is what I wanted to do. Very useful.
