How do I remove ipads/devices from being linked to my Apple ID?

If I'm selling a device, and want to remove it from my Apple ID, how do I do this? I don't want there to be an issue with a new person setting it up when they receive it, nor would I want it to stay linked to my id.

What do I need to do? I feel like I've done this before, but I can't remember how.
