Hi I have an Imac that was started by using migration assistan
that gave me 2 unwanted user accounts..
One called Guest and one called MicaelS

How can I remove those??

Login in to user "Micael" who has admin priviliges and then go to system prefs and user accounts let me see the accounts available and olso unlock them for edit..
However the minus sign "-" is dimmed for both accounts and i cant remove them..

So How can this be done??
best regards Micael

You can create a New User (for example "USER") with Administrator Accounts.
In the bottom of the user creation you have the choise for the new user to be a user or admin of the server.
After the creation, you log out from the other users, logon eith the new "USER" and then you can delete all the other Users. When you delete the other users you can select to keep the home folders (Pictures, Videos etc) or delete them all.

I have done a lot of times that.

But when I try to do that the removal sign "-" is dimmed so I can NOT click on it??
So what could be wrong then??
All the accounts was created by Migration Assistant so none by me..

When you enter to the Accounts, it appears the Unlock in the left bottom.
You press it, and then when you check an account you cannot see the "-" to remove it?
I understant right?

Did you try to create a new one, with admin privileges?
You make log out from the old user, again login with the new, and you cannot see the "-" ?

Hi yes thats about correct...Actually I do se the "-" but it is dimmed...and can not be clicked

Guaranteed way to get rid of the unwanted account:

1. Boot from an external, bootable drive
2. Click ONE time on icon for internal drive, then do a "get info" and set the checkmark for "ignore ownership on this volume". (You can now do anything you wish with the files on the internal drive)
3. Open the "Users" folder on the internal drive
4. Drag "MicaelS" folder to trash and empty trash.
5. Gone!
(I'd leave the "guest" folder there, it's supposed to be there).

This will remove only the unwanted home folder.
If there were any other folders created elsewhere on the drive while logged into the (now deleted) account, those will have to be removed, as well.

hm unfortunately i don't have an external bootable drive...is that the only way?

Amazingly this actually worked....a bit hard to see the logic...but followed the steps below and could remove the account...

1. LOG OUT of all accounts.

2. LOG IN to the account you wish to delete.

3. CHOOSE SYSTEM PREFERENCES>USERS & GROUPS

4. Click the Padlock and Authenticate.

5. Choose the account in the list that YOU WISH TO KEEP. Remember you should be currently logged into the account you wish to delete.

6. Click CHANGE PASSWORD and change the password of the account which you wish to keep to something else other than that which you were using.

7. LOG OUT of the account.

8. LOG BACK IN to the account you wish to keep with your new password.

9. GO BACK TO SYSTEM PREFERENCES>USERS & GROUPS, click the padlock, authenticate and hopefully when you click on the account you wish to delete the minus symbol will be available and you can simply remove the account.

10. Change your password back to your usual password if thats what you want to do.
