I received an Android tablet from my grandmother a year or so ago, and I'm finally getting around to using it. However, I don't want to use the Android operating system. I would much rather use Linux. Of course, to be able to install Linux, I have to "root" the operating system. I tried to install the Google Play Store in hopes I'd be able to install a rooting program, but even after trying 3 different versions, I've had no success.

How do I root Android Ice Cream Sandwich?

It's not a case of how do I root the specific OS but specific Model / Make of the device.

Who made your tablet? What model name/number is it?

Once you have those, search for it on XDA forums - if it's there and if it's possible to root it - there will be a thread and instructions posted by the community.

That ROM is for a specific device. The OP hasn't specified what device they have so it's possible installing this could render the device unusable forever.
OP did say in post #3 (only one more post up :D ) the device is a Nextbook Next10P12, so the ROM _appears_ to be for that specific device.
