How do i sell Mini with Lion from app store?

I bought a refurb mac mini server with snow leopard. later I ordered lion from the app store. This is the first time i ordered an OS without physical media. How can i sell the mini and keep lion installed to attract more buyers. there is no media that I can include so they can reinstall if they ever need to. Also isn't the Lion that I installed registered to me? Maybe apps bought from app store are not meant to be transferable.

correct answer.

you could put the lion on another machine that you own. You can set the machine back to snow and you can give the machine with an app card so the new buyer can put lion on it.
 
yes i guess i did. Now i see a disadvantage to buying software from the app store. In the past, whenever i sold a mac on ebay i would always include any software I had bought for it. Now with downloading apps, you no longer can offer that to a potential buyer. Kind of a drag. I bought the software for the mac mini server, but i may not ever buy a server again. I thought i would use the extra hard drive but never did.

In addition to gage006's point, I think you have other options that are perfectly appropriate and acceptable.

There are plenty of tutorials on how to obtain the original .dmg file that is downloaded by your App Store purchase. Here is one. It refers to Lion and not Lion Server, but I imagine the process is the same. There should be nothing wrong with burning the .dmg file to a DVD or by simply putting it on a flash drive for the next owner.

I did it for myself as a backup for my 2010 13" MacBook Pro.

If you no longer have the original file (to be expected) that was downloaded to your machine from the App Store, follow the tips in this thread to redownload the file.

I might feel differently if we were talking about things other than an OS, but you purchased the OS to update that machine. There's nothing wrong with it following that machine.

However, unlike previous OS licenses, the EULA is tied to your Apple ID not to the machine. It is also $29 instead of $99+.

I think only Apple can clarify this process and how the EULA should be dealt with.

Some will say don't worry it was only $29, but it wasn't. If you have a mac mini server, Apple charges an extra 49.99 in addition to the $29.99. So that's $80 down the tubes.

The Sever package is just an add on to the normal Lion. You don't HAVE to purchase it and pretty much everything it does is available using free software.
