How do I set up a Mac server to send bulk e-mails?

Hi I run a PR company and send out press releases to multiple Bcc recipients.
I have a mailing list system set up with my host 123-reg but it keeps going down.

I was wondering if it was worth setting up an e-mail server to send out bulk e-mails? My biggest news list has around 3,000 journalist's e-mail address so would need to be able to cope with that kind of volume.

I literally have zero knowledge on such things so is it straight forward enough to do and can anyone recommend a good tutorial?

I've got a couple of old Macs lying around, like two iMac G3s and an eMac G4 could I utilise any of them?

Hopefully that makes sense, any help at all please would be greatfully received...

Use a third party service. If your current one is having problems, fine another.

If you have zero knowledge then setting up the server is the least of your worries, dealing with spam rules, your ISP, etc will be more hassle than the server setup.

Mass emailing is usually against TOS for most ISP's, there are tons of 3rd party services out there that can handle it for you, plus it protects your domain from ICANN rules.

The easiest to use is Constant Contact, think 3000 contacts will run you around $30-$35 per month. There are tons of other alternatives too.

... just wanted to say I ended up using Direct Mail for Mac for sending out bulk e-mails. http://ethreesoftware.com/directmail/index.php and so far no complaints!
