Hello good folks on MacRumors,

I have this annoying issue that's listed inside Console app that I can't unsee now.

It's to do with listings such as
AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent[540]: Entered:__thr_AMMuxedDeviceDisconnected, mux-device:253

As I've been writing this comment I have gone to AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent[540]: Entered:__thr_AMMuxedDeviceDisconnected, mux-device:258

What is going on. What are these??? I've been around the web searching and found some older comments relating to iPhones and iPods.
I have an iPhone but no iTunes and I'm using Sonoma on an Mac mini M2

In time - these entries will escalate to beyond 400 and of course more as long as I'm keeping the Mac alive

Yes I did..

to stop the Agent:
Code:
pkill SIGSTOP AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent

and then to start again should you so wish
Code:
sudo launchctl start com.apple.AMPDevicesAgent

MacBook Pro M1 max running 12.5.1

HI, What I've discovered is that AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent service is related to (in my case) my iPhone. The service starts the first time a phone is connected and then runs looking for a connection. it can be stopped with

pkill SIGSTOP AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent

However, if at that point you plug your phone in, finder won't see it. Quitting and relaunching Finder will restart the process or use

launchctl start com.apple.AMPDevicesAgent to start it up again.

Perhaps the way it logs will change with Ventura
in the meantime I just stop it with the pkill command so it doesn't unnecessarily fill the system log.

On my MacMini (intel) 12.5.0 it works as one would expect.. The process launches when the phone is connected and stops when the phone is disconnected

That's not correct. To wake the agent up after pausing it with SIGSTOP you should use SIGCONT:
Code:
pkill SIGCONT AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent
If you're never synching phones or ipods, you could use a local launch agent to kill the device discovery agent when you log in.

Thank you.. I was also only going with the information I read on Apple Support forum/page

I'll add the information given to my own Notes file
