I would like to post an icon on my website and link to the product. How do I do that? I don't want to use Grab because I want the image to be the exact shape of the icon. How do I do that...where is the image stored on the computer...can I access it that way?

make sure you are in column view...

click once on the app to get the preview...

now hold down CMD + SHIFT + 4 and you can select an area of the screen to take a snapshot of... the image file will appear as a PDF on your desktop. you can export the image in preview as a JPEG or open with photoshop etc...

an image can't be the "exact" shape of an icon, but you can use an image editor like photoshop that can save as a GIF with transparency and such...

or hit the space bar after that command and it will take a snapshot of the object. either way works.

yeah but look how small it makes it. its better to make it 128x128 and then snap shot it and work with it in photoshop.

Install the Developer Tools.

Run Icon Composer

Select the large image (128x128)

Go File->Export Image

You will now have a perfect Tiff of the icon (including transparency). Use whatever tools you want to turn it into a gif or png (I normally use the command line ImageMagik tool mogrify).
