Sync your EDGE iPhone. When you setup your iPhone 3G, select to restore from backup instead of "setup as new iPhone" and choose the most recent backup.

It will probably break lots of other stuff, but you'll have those txt convos!

When you sync your old iPhone it should create a backup. Then when you activate your new iPhone you can choose the option to restore your info from the backup. You should still be able to do it even if you have no service on the old iPhone.

Hope that helps.

There's no way that's true. It doesn't "break" anything.

When I did it, I ended up with all sorts of blank squares in my pictures, Safari bookmarks were in a different language, YouTube didn't work, and the phone functionality of the device would not work.

Restoring and setting up as a new device fixed the problem.

I didn't have any of those problems updating my iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.0. I did have a few settings to fix, but nothing major.
