How do I uninstall applications?

I'm looking to uninstall some stuff from my macbook, how do I go about it?
I know with most you can just trash them
but I'm talking of things like Aperture and Final Cut Pro which have loads of associated files, I can't find an uninstaller in the folders and I don't have any of the disks out here with me at the moment.

Usually, yes. But it's probably best to not delete something if you're unsure.

Some common sense will of course have to be used here because you may have, for example, a document on photography with the word "aperture" in its filename and you may not want to get rid of that.
But generally speaking, this is what you'll end up having to do.

There's a shareware program I like called AppZapper that works pretty well for the most part and it also uninstalls prefpanes and such. It's more complete than just dragging the .app file to the trash, but it still misses some folders in the ~Library folder, I've found.

I just tried Appzapper which looks great, but I ran Whatsize after it and found it had not removed any of the application support for DVD Studio Pro (over 8 gig) amongst others.
If it removed them aswel I think i'd buy it.
