I'm not a computer person, so please be kind if this is a silly question.

I installed Yosemite and lost the ability to use my iPhoto and Photoshop.

How do I restore the old operating system?

Thanks,

Jenn

Not sure what you mean by "lost the ability".
iPhoto works just fine on my Yosemite installation, so good in fact that I have removed the new "photos" application which I did not like.
As for photoshop, there are many links on Google dealing with how to correct this issue, like this one.

Someone posted a comment about an alternative solution that doesn’t require installing Java 6. Best to try that first!

Thanks.

My issue has to do with the fact that my programs are old. I'm sure if I had the most recent versions, I would be fine but I can't afford to upgrade everything to work with Yosemite. I just want to go back to where I was.

What version of OS X did your computer come with?
If by chance it is one the later versions you just might be able to do an internet restore which will reinstall the version that the system shipped with.
Before taking such a step you'd be well advised to make backups of any data and applications on the computer you cannot afford to lose.

Do you have a current backup of your drive(s)?

If you don't then get one before you think any further, you may need to buy an external drive if you don't have one already.
