How do I uninstall Vista on my PC in order to reinstall XP? *not mac based*

Right,

My household has a Vista laptop. However, everything we want to use on it doesn't work, i.e. phone, digital camera and mp3 player are pretty much all incompatible. You can work around the camera problems, but too complicated for parents who use it!

Anyway, I had an old genuine xp home disk with service pack 1.1a built in so shoved it in the drive and restarted the computer to install. However, when you click enter to start the installation, it says it can't find a hard drive to install to?! Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

Strange place to ask such a question but anyway, you'll need to find the Windows XP driver for the disc controller on the motherboard (most probably sata)

What make is the PC? Have a look at the manufacturers website for a SATA driver, you'll need to copy it to a floppy disc and press F6 (or F8) when prompted to supply a driver disk.

Actually you may need a flash drive if XP lets you use one, I haven't seen a laptop with a floppy drive in years.

And i'd be astonished if a Vista laptop had one.
