I'm trying to find it on the boards, but maybe im not looking for the RIGHT keywords. If i already jailbroke 2.2 using pwnage tool, and the next version comes out, how do i go about the process? Do i have to restore my iphone 3g before I update, then rejailbreak?

Also, I have a unibody macbook. To get around it, I've used a USB hub. But it only works for me with pwnage tool. When I use quickpwn, I get stuck auto rebooting over and over without an error message. When the next quickpwn comes out, will this problem be fixed since I've already jailbreaked before? Thanks

So..

I dont have to restore before I update correct?

Wrong.

You should backup, update, restore from back up.

If you have a jail broken phone, and you update, than re-jail break, you will lose 500mb each time you do this on your hard drive.

No, you are wrong.

1. Backup
2. Restore the firmware (to create a virgin phone)
3. Update the firmware
4. Jailbreak
5. Restore from backup taken in step 1.
