Does anyone know how to use a michrophone with a powerbook? I have a top of the line instrument michrophone and the proper converters to an RCA plugging into the headphone jack but i'm not getting any response to the line-in setting in System Preferences, let alone my music software. Is there something that i'm missing, or is there software or drivers I need to download?

I'm hoping to use this with Soundtrack if that helps....

thank you to anyone who can be of assistance.

I tried that too

I'm sorry to report that you can't use the line in port for a microphone. Unless the source is sending power through into the line in port (such as a Radio or VCR), the computer won't read any signal. A simple microphone isn't powered, thus it will not work with a line in port. What you need is a mic port (but Apple computers don't have them).

There are four solutions:

1. Get a "powered" Microphone.
2. Get a device like the "iMic".

3. Get a USB Microphone.
4. Stick your finger in a live socket.

I'm Glad I was able to see your post and help you out. I Hope this information was useful.
