How do I use an iCloud verification code?

I'm getting a new phone tomorrow because as of recently my phone has logged me out of everything. iCloud, iMessage, etc... I will sign in when it asks and it just either freezes or asks me again even though the password is correct. Now I need to back up my phone because I'm getting a new one and both my laptop USB ports don't work so I'm trying to use iCloud. iCloud keeps saying get verification code. I will get it to sign into it on my laptop but it doesn't tell you how to use the verification code. I have no idea where to plug it in.
