What if the new iPhone starts out at 3.2.x? Do we really know for sure that 4.0 is coming?

No one knows for sure, but being that it hasn't been announced yet, I think the new iPhone HD due out this summer, will ship with 4.0.

See what I mean? Everyone just speculates. Now it's the iPhone HD. Hmm...

Three previous iPhones, three previous versions of the software. It's more than likely than not that the 4th gen will also have a new software version accompanying its debut.

I agree that this will most likely happen, but we don't know for sure that it will.

how do we know? Because that would be utterly retarded and Apple isn't utterly retarded. This isn't even a question.

We Know

nothing until Steve Jobs or who ever he elects to tell us when they elect to tell us! till then everything regarding the iphone or anything Apple is just a guess! that is the way Apple works and the way they will continue too work! truth be told we don't even know there will be a new Iphone this year! So there is no way we know what firmware it will have!

It's pretty much guaranteed. Besides the fact that Jobs already said there'd be a new iPhone this year, Apple is a predictable company and they *have* to to keep up any growth and stop the mass flocking over to Android.

true to a point

the truth is we know nothing about it until they tell us or maybe a little info a few weeks prior like last year. most likely we won't know much till WWDC

We know a new phone is coming this year. Period.

Although we don't know for sure, I'm assuming Apple is going to make a splash this time, so we'll definitely have a 4.0. That won't mean much to the 3GS and especially the 3G, since they probably won't be able to use the new OS very well.
