Just switched from Catalina to Big Sur. And when I did it appears that the yellow colored border to the Comment icon in the Tool Bar went away. I didn't realize how much I relied on that colored border to find Comment when working with Numbers. And I cannot find a way to get it back! Tried in System Preferences and in Customize Tool Bar, but cannot find anything to add color. Anyone able to help me? Thanks!!

Tap on cell and then Fill to change the color of any of the border cell colors. Mine was gray and I changed it to yellow to show you it can be done.

Am not getting this to work. To be clear, I want to change the color of the Comment Icon in the tool bar from gray to yellow (or red or blue or something). I want to do this to highlight the position the Comment icon in the toolbar. Or wouldn't mind coloring all the icons in the toolbar.

I am clear on wha you are looking for and I posted the steps to get what you want. I don't know why it isn't working for you.

Sorry. Perhaps I am not correctly following your instructions. I go up to the tool bar and tap on the cell that says "Comment". I do not get anything resembling the illustration you posted above. If I tap once, I open the comment window with no instructions on changing color or filing. If I double click, I get instructions on displaying the comment icon with or without a caption, or get sent right back to making a comment. I have a feeling I am not meant to tap the cell that says "comment", but that is the cell I want to color.

With your numbers document open, tap on the format option in the upper right corner. When you do that, you should see the same kind of thing as the screenshot I posted. Tap on Cell > Fill > and then change the color to what you want for the comments section.

Yes, I do see that. And that colors the cell in the spreadsheet. I am trying to color the word "Comment" in the toolbar at the top of the screen in the toolbar. Beginning to think it is not possible with Big Sur. Thanks for your help.

If you want to change the text from black to gold in the comment section, click on Text > Text Color to change from black to gold.

You misunderstand each other. I don't think it is possible to change the toolbar into color mode. Seems Apple decided monochrome is more stylish.
