I have an iPhone 5S. Recently I installed a fitness app called "MyFitnessPal".

Amongst other things it reads the phone's M7 motion chips to record your steps. However, I cannot work out how its calibrated.

The MyFitness support people were unable to help me with this.

According to it, today I walked about 1,000 steps. Thing is, I've been stuck in the house for most of the day and only walked about 50 metres (or yards) when I had to go out for a while.

Also, where's the best place to have the phone; pants pocket, shirt pocket?

Thanks.

2,000 steps is a mile. You could have easily done it when you were out. You just don't realize it. ;)

There appears to be no calibration options.

Thanks Jessica.

Thing is, my steps may be smaller or larger than yours. So, my 2,000 steps may well be short of a mile (or 620m).

My usual pedometer needs to be calibrated before it's used for the first time. For that I merely marked the footpath outside, 2 lines, 20m apart, then counted the steps and calibrated that into the pedometer.

They say that the 5S also uses GPS. But much of my walking at work is under cover and up and down stairs (lots of them). So, the GPS isn't of much use to me there.
