How do you correct this? Weird Home folder name....

Hi, all.
Something went wrong with my system after I restored from time machine.

There is 1 attached to my home folder name and I don't know how I can edit that.

Also there are couple of apps regularly crashing, I want to start as a new system. but I have an issue as there are bunch of application and my data.

What is best option?

Do I just create a new user account and copy the data? or is there a better way?

First, make sure you keep that Time Machine backup set aside right now!

If you go to System Preferences > Users & Groups, then right click on your user, you can change its name.

HOWEVER, someone else should chime in with knowledge about permissions. I am not sure if the fix is as simple as that. (And if you do it, you should probably be logged into a different account with your wrongly named account logged out?)

todesto, your issues may be coming from home-level permissions issues. Besides changing the name right now, I think what you can do is right click your your home folder, and when your user name shows up in the permissions section at the bottom, set it to make your account the owner and apply to all. It'll take a few minutes.

Again, I'm not 100% on this, but based on your issue these are the areas I'd start exploring.

You should be fine to change it. But you'll need to do more than what timm1027 said.

1. Create a second Admin account, then log out of your account and log into that one
2. As timm1027 said, right click your user name in System Preferences > Users & Groups then change the name
3. Change the name of your home folder in /Users/ (make sure the user name and home folder name match)
4. Log back in to your account, and delete the second admin account
