It doesnt let me hold command and delete to remove a iMessage like it did on Catalina, is there a way on Big Sur to remove a message without clicking the mouse over it

Same thing here. Try to use keyboard shortcuts, add "Delete Conversation..." and select keys you like.

To add to the above answer: It is not possible to use the delete key to set up a shortcut in System Preferences. You can add it with this Terminal command though:
Code:
defaults write com.apple.MobileSMS NSUserKeyEquivalents '{ "Delete Conversation\U2026" = "@\U232b"; }'

And BIG SUR no longer has an "X" in the person's name so you can delete from there--you can only delete by going to file and then delete conversation...which now adds two steps to getting rid quickly of texts from non-friends (i.e. delivery announcements, etc..) Why get rid of this simple thing?

Yes, this is very annoying and hopefully a bug Apple will fix. The "X" was perfect.

It's swipe left for me.
Sorry, but that's on your phone or iPAD. I'm talking about on the MAC in Big Sur. If you were to swipe left on the Mac it would create a pinned conversation. The "X" seems so simple and obvious. I hope they bring it back.

No it's on my Mac. One creates a Pin, the other way gives Mute/Delete option.

Well, I take it back--You're RIGHT. I tried sliding with TWO fingers and it worked perfectly, exposing an option for a trash can. Thank you. Not the "X" but much better than having to go to FILE every time.

Yea not saying what's better, just that the option is there.

Thank you guys. This was bothering me a lot. And the update did not restore the X nor short cuts. But this works and will soon be a new habit. I love macrumors--never would have figured this out otherwise.

Yes, the swipe works but it is still a two step process as iMessage then asks you to confirm that you want to delete the message -- in Catalina, so long as I had "Keep messages forever" checked in Preferences, it would delete without this second step

Has anyone found a workaround? It seems Big Sur is adding steps to the process rather than streamlining it

two finger swipe right works for me in one step but command-option K that always worked before does not work on Big Sur 11.1 and Macbook Pro M1. This is the screen shot showing the edit menu - The Clear Transcript (conversation) should have either the command-option K or some other short cut

oops - looks like two finger swipe just pins the message. I hope this gets fixed. Now, with double authorization taking place so often I get lots of text messages and it is taking too long to delete them all.

I have my trackpad display alternate click by pressing lower tight corner. In so doing menu pops up and I hit delete. Then confirmation pops up and I hit delete.

Horrible design. Apple treats my messages like nuclear launch codes. I should be able to press CMD + Delete like other areas of the OS or just Delete like yet other areas. Consistency in Big Sur is sadly missing. You can not convince me that each team of interns didn’t designed different areas.

Is there some way to delete message or conversation easier than swipe left, click on delete, then click on the CONFIRM delete modal pop-up? Why is there no keyboard shortcut, or at least removal of the confirm delete pop-up?

Apple: this suuuuuuuucks. Three or four clicks to delete a message. What are the top two functions in iMessage? Create new, and delete. So you make one of the most common activities take four clicks? And they removed the preference option to not ask for confirmation. Dreadful UX people. Fix it.

I would swear that Apple lets the interns build stuff these days. Mis-matched looks and functionality, especially in Big Sur.

Another way to add a keyboard shortcut is with BetterTouchTool. It allows the adding of Command+Delete and have it trigger the menubar item "Delete Conversation"

Feedback: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

On my Mac, I want to delete Message conversations much more easily.

Currently, I have to swipe left, hit delete, and then click on a prompt that says "Would you like to delete this conversation?" WTF? Of course I want to delete the conversation. That is why I swiped and hit delete.

It would be great if all I had to do was hit the delete key on my keyboard and the message vanishes from my life without a stupid prompt asking me "Are you sure? Are you really sure you want to delete this conversation? Just to be certain, did you want to delete the conversation?"

Adding the ability to Shift-Click and select a whole range of conversations or Command-Click and select a variety of conversations, hit delete, and let them be gone!

Maybe since Apple did away with the iMessage archive, they want us to be reaaaaaallllllyyyy sure
