What I want to do is Jailbreak, get the plist I want to edit it, edit it, put it back, DFU restore. I do not want to install Cydia or OpenSSH or anything like that. I managed it on Windows but can't find any applications to do this on the Mac. Can it be done?

I have searched but cannot find the answer. :)

Well, Cydia is about the minimum install for a jB. Open SSH (from Cydia) and Cyber duck for the Mac will allow you to get to the file, which can be edited with several different apps (TextEdit on Mac).

Not sure why you are against these 2 apps. You can always remove OpenSSH thru Cydia once you are done.

If you can do it on Windoze, why not just do it there if you're against Cydia and OpenSSH ???

I'm sure I didn't install Cydia when I Jailbroke on Windows. I just Jailbroke then used an application that could browse the iPhone. I just don't really want to install Cydia or OpenSSH.

Then I cannot help you and I personally have never seen anyone post a way to do what you want without OpenSSH (not saying it cannot be done)

If the phone is Jailbroken you can use Phoneview to download and edit files..Phoneview doesn't need Open SSH..

Are there any free options? I've just noticed that Phoneview is a paid solution. There was a free phone browser for the PC.

Sorry bud, forgot to tell you that it's not free...Haven't seen anything with similar functions on mac platform...

Right, I've done it. What I did was:

1. Jailbreak using redsn0w on my Mac (no Cydia or Icy);
2. use iPhoneBrowser on a PC to get M68AP.plist;
3. move M68AP.plist over to my Mac and use PlistEdit Pro to add the gas-gauge-battery boolean;
4. take a backup of my iPhone;
5. DFU restore software;
6. restore backup.

:D

On second thoughts... It seems that a backup doesn't actually contain this setting, at least on the 3G, so after restoring the software then the backup, the percentage option is gone. I've tried twice now. Oh well!
