I can use “Hey Siri” to send texts or make a call when I’m currently driving with the Driving Focus on. I have it set to automatically become enabled when in motion. However when I ask Siri to give directions to a destination she says I have to unlock the phone to do this and suggests I not do this while driving. I don’t remember whether this was the same in ios 14 since it’s not something I would often do. But I have always had DND or driving focus set to automatic and it seems that you should be able to get directions without having to physically interact with the phone. Is this possible and is there some setting that can be changed to allow this, besides turning Focus off?

Doing a search I found an article and comments from a year ago with the exact same question and apparently there was no way to do this without unlocking the phone, and apparently there still isn’t. All other “Hey Siri” functions can be performed without touching the phone but not navigation. Seems very odd to me but maybe there is some rationale behind this.

Gave up on Waze years ago. Very poor routing in my area and once had me turn the wrong way on a one-way street. Local traffic was very good in the app but the others do just as well now and Apple Maps is top notch in my area. Plus I don’t need Google knowing any more about me than they already do:)
