I usually use one of many free submission tools, but it would be nice to know what you do.

Just do the submission, google also has free analytics that you can put on your site, it's a simple script thrown on the bottom of your page code, right before the </body> tag.

Umm, link recruitment is big, getting traffic, both from direct input and links from popular sites. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a busy business.

Wait?
:p

Seriously, just search for your full domain name ever hours (or day if you are lazy lol)

Sooner or later it will show up,

links from other sites dont hurt it either!

Well i use Analytics which is great. Im going to look at sitemaps now. I am on all the business directories i can find. Just wait for it to be found now i guess.

I refuse to pay big money for SEO

Provide good content that people want to read, or a useful service, or some other compelling reason to visit your site.

More time on content, less time on tricks and short cuts for getting good rankings, which may or may not work.

Get some inbound links (preferably high PR as they get crawled faster and more frequently). Free ways include:

  • Writing articles and submitting to article directories
  • Forum signature/ profile with link to your website
  • Leaving comments/ trackbacks at blogs linking to ur site
  • Submitting to free directories
  • Providing such compelling authoritative content that webmasters just can't help resist but linking to you

I agree completely. There are lots of SEO tricks, but the bottom line is you need to have content that people want. If other sites link to yours, you will end up getting crawled by google and other search sites will follow.

I've never submitted my sites to a search engine before. I just spend time using web standards and proper markup semantics. With good design and interesting content, people will start to link to you. And the more people link to you, the higher you will rank in google.
