What's the verdict? Does it actually solve anything? Is it better for battery? Performance? Push notification?

I don't think its been out long enough to answer all those questions. I have it and it hasn't rendered my phone useless, so just jump on board and update.

I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant.

I think he's having a bath, mate :D.

EDIT: I d/l and installed last night. Purely anecdotal, but I think my signal strength is a bit more steady in San Francisco. It also seems like the phone runs smoother. Bad thing is, I'm down to 21% battery life after 9 hours unplugged.

He's having something, that's for sure. The other thread on 3.1.2 is virtually useless to look through with all the off-topic posts. Anyway, I haven't upgraded, and would caution people to wait. For those that have the "coma" issue, it does seem to fix that, so they should upgrade, for sure. Other than that, IDK what it really does to make things any better than 3.1. I'll probably wait for 3.2 or until they come up with a new tethering carrier that can work for 3.1 or above.

3.1.1 was the first time I had the bugs that random people seem to get. I had a lot of wake from sleep issues and apps that crashed. This happened daily but after the update I haven't had any issue at all. I'm very happy.

I dunno...still hasn't solved some of the things that were annoying me, such as having to play hide-and-seek with emails (you know, sometimes you gotta refresh from the server after they've already downloaded once because they go away), stuttering scroll on podcasts lists...now I'm not getting sounds when I receive texts half the time...just wish it was a more substantial update.

It works fine! No issues, no battery problems - look like all the 3.1 issues were addressed.

It fixed my signal problems, I think battery life is better but I will have to report back after this week.

My impressions so far:

I constantly had issues with my text alert not sounding. I'm a pretty heavy texter and I'm still waiting for this to happen.

Good: 1 Bad: 0

Prior to the update, I had an issue where I would try to text after not using my phone for a while and the text wouldn't go through. After resetting the phone, the text would go through along with a pile of incoming that hadn't made it through due to some signal issue. I have yet to experience this as well.

Good: 2 Bad: 0

Prior to the update, when restarting my phone I would get the spinning wheel after sliding to power down and then it would go back to the lock screen. Sometimes it would be there long enough for the phone to re-aquire a signal and for me to slide to unlock and get to the home screen before finishing the shut down. This also seems to be fixed.

Good: 3 Bad: 0

I have nothing to complain about thus far so it seems the update is worth it for anybody who is

A. Not hanging on to 3.0.1 to keep the tethering hack

or

B. content with the way their jailbroken phone is currently working and doesn't feel like re-doing everything.

Apparently this update didn't fix the weak WiFi reception that the 3.0 update gave us.

Ask you neighbor to move his router closer to your house... :D

I kid. But seriously my wifi signal is perfect. While getting my iPod cable adapter installed in my car this morning I browsed on the shop's wifi and never had a problem. Same with my lunch at Panera.

Is this a common issue? I don't recall seeing any threads about it.

Sounds like I'll be fairly chuffed with 3.1.2 once I update on Monday. Of course I'm going to do a full clean install just to see some noticable difference regardless.

I'm now suffering from the phone constantly dropping back to edge after EVERY call in South Florida, never had that problem before.

This update fixed my issue of the phone dropping off the cellular network, but showing full connectivity, necessitating a restart. As a bonus, my phone (3G) is more responsive. I hadn't realized how laggy it had gotten until after this update. After botching the last update, Apple has redeemed themselves with this one.

updated my iphone to 3.1, phone touchscreen became unresponsive, refusing to wake up etc..updated to 3.1.2..still unresponsive and refuses to wake up etc. soo, absolutely no improvement for me:(

I updated mine a few days ago on my 1st gen iPod touch and everything seems to run a lot smoother. That's the only real difference I've noticed so far, I don't really use push notifications that much so I'm not really sure how it has improved there.

Only updated yesterday, was on 3.1 before

So far I havent noticed any differences, but i didnt suffer from the bugs mentioned either

3.1.2

I'm seeing better battery life. 1 1/2 hr listening to internet radio would drain 10-15% typically. No visable decrease (same time frame) since the update.

It solved the sleep/wake issues for me. As well as sometimes saying it had service but in realty didn't and couldn't receive new texts/calls
