Hi, I have an iPad PRO 12.9". With the large screen, loud sound and good battery life, it is great for surfing the web or watching videos. However, some of you may disagree, I found it not useful as a productivity device. When the iPad OS Beta came out, I was very excited about it and even bought a Logitech keyboard. Then, the excitement worn out and I found that in practice, it is not as good as a 2 in 1 laptop such as the Yoga C930. For example, iPad Pro can only have two windows side by side while in 2 in 1 machine, we can have overlayed windows. We can also develop software and run Windows programs. Moreover, there are still some compatibility issues between iOS browser and some sites such as Blackboard. After using Yoga C930 last year, I feel that I wasted money to buy an iPad PRO. Certainly it cannot be used to replace a computer for my work.

It all depends on what you want to use it for IMO. If productivity is just Word documents, emails, spreadsheets, etc. than the iPad Pro may be good enough. Anything more intensive and you're better off with something more PC-lite. I use my iPad Pro mostly for media consumption and for some light email and spreadsheet work when traveling. For me, it does that job just fine. But if I needed something that could handle more for work (like traditional Windows programs, USB storage, etc.) I would opt for a Surface device.

I would never attempt to replace a work computer with a tablet, regardless if it is called "Pro" or not. But it also depends on the work. If all you ever do is word processing, spreadsheets, email, browse the web (fyi....iPad can use other browsers than Safari), and similar basic simple tasks then it could work ok, I guess. But it is still extremely limited as you've pointed out.

For these reasons, I don't buy the "Pro" models of iPad. At the same time, I don't use my Lenovo Yoga 2-in-1 as a tablet. It is a great laptop, but a horrid tablet and my 6th gen iPad is just superior. It isn't even close, frankly.

Even with iPad OS and an external keyboard, iPad (Pro) cannot replace a computer. It is a good media consumption device though. If I could go back in time, I would not have bought the IPP.

Why not trade it in for credit or sell it?

Good idea. It has developed many backlight on one edge. Don’t know if I can get much back. What are the causes? It is just two years old! My Samsung Galaxy Note Pro is over five years and no problem.

Don't know the causes to backlight bleed but others have had that issue with their iPad Pros.

If you can get any money or credit for it, why not try?

I think the iPad is a product that does not have a well-defined use (although my thinking is a bit old, since I prefer a desktop computer over a notebook).
I was able to have an iPad Pro 2017 10.5 and it is true that it is an amazing team, very fast, it looks super good, and it has no fault.
However it does not convince me, I feel that I would prefer to use a Macbook and an iPhone (and that I used the iPad with a keyboard and mouse).
My feeling is that iPadOS is (in fact it is) an intermediate operating system between iOS and OS X, and it doesn't end up joining both.
However, I still recognize that it is a good gadget.

I have an iPad Pro 12.9" tablet that is basically regulated to a nightstand/media consumption device. I just don't find it to be a particularly useful productivity device. I am sure I would feel differently if I had to use an IOS application for every day work purposes like my buddy who runs a la mode for appraisals on it.

I much prefer my Surface Pro to the iPad Pro. If the iPad Pro were to die I would not bother replacing it. If the Surface Pro died I would be buying another within the hour :)

Since my MacBook died more than a year ago, I’ve been using my iPad Pro exclusively for school and for everything else. The Notability app and the Bear app are life savers. The iPad Pro has been the best purchase I’ve ever made. It’s remarkable.

I've tested both and I now like both, but the iPad Pro gets the edge for me only due to art apps.

The Surface does many other things well and is built like a tank. I wish the iPP was that sturdy and Apple licensed the kickstand from MS.

As for other 2-in-1 machines, I cannot say. I am still used to desktop and tablet being separate things. Or laptop and tablet as separate devices as it may eventually be.

For folks that make the iPP or Surface Pro work, that is great. I am not at that point yet.
