I've used the same serial number to install office 08 on both my desktop and laptop. Since their on the same LAN office 08 prompts me saying that when one is open on one of the computers, I cant open it on the other.

So now i've got a new serial number to put on the second machine but anytime I go to reinstall office, it will not prompt me for the new serial number. It will just use the same old one. I've uninstalled office completely and it just wont work. Any advice?

Easy but takes slightly more time

Uninstall Office 2008 by dragging it to the trash or running the Remove Office app. Once you finish that, got to HD>user name/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ and drag the Office 2008 folder to your trash. Make sure to empty the trash after that.
All you have to do now is re-install Office and you should be good to go :)

ou need to find and delete (move to trash, and empty trash) both of these files.
* ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008
* HD/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.Plist

The OfficePID file is a hidden file so if you don't have a script or program running to show them, go into terminal and type:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE (hit enter)
killall finder (hit enter)

To hide the files again, substitute FALSE for "TRUE".
When you restart MS Office it will ask you for your serial number again.
