How do you report an *app* as a concern?

I don't mean, how do you report a review comment on an app as a concern. I mean, how do you report a concern about an entire app in the App Store?

My muslim friend at work showed me her iPod touch and it has iQuran on it. (I'm not a muslim, and have no intention of following any religion. I'm just not that gullible...)

I read a couple of pages and there are English translations in that app that really are very hateful towards Jews and Christians. I could give examples but I'd be done for hate speech!

Even some of the reviews on the App Store point this out - many of them muslim!

How did Apple allow this app to get through their vetting process?

How do I report it to Apple as needing to be removed?

There's also a Pro version which likely contains the same hate speech.

Go to the App in the App store and click the "Report a Problem" button. That's really all that you can do. Since Apple is located in the US it is governed by the US constitution and it could be considered unconstitutional due to a violation of freedom of religion.



On an honest side note, I'm not a Muslim and I agree with you completely that hateful things like that poison gullable minds.
 
Very interesting, indeed. Are these hateful words just part of what the Quaran actually says? Or, are these hateful words added in addition to the English translation of the Quaran? If they are included in addition to what the Quaran says, then yes, this would truly be offensive.

It's a totally different story if the actually Quaran teaches violence towards Jews and Christians. Maybe it does. I have no idea. But, if so, then the true problem lies with the Islamic religion, not the actual app called iQuaran.

I think he may also be questioning whether the Koran actually says those things. If there's a mistake in the translation, that's a legitimate problem. If the Koran actually says those things, its a legitimate app.

I've obviously not a Muslim, but I might want to read it if it actually says those things... I'm not a religious guy either, but I can't believe a religion would promote hatred.

The US Constitution protects against government making laws against freedom of speech or persecution of an individual due to speaking their mind. The Consitution does not say Apple's App Store has to allow religious texts or radical views. Profanity and pornography have been ruled constitutional, but still the App Store does not allow it. The short of it; the US Constitution does not govern Apple's policies. Otherwise, we would have mms and c/p by now. :p

I totally believe religion (not any one in particular) has in the past and likely will again promote hatred in the future. Remember, all religion is man-made.

Prediction: 4 pages by tonight, then locked.
 
downloaded it, did a search for both JEW and CHRISTIAN within the app and couldn't find anything untowards. can you give a reference of where it is?

One of the more recent reviews in the UK store mentions that the offensive translation has been replaced with a more moderate one, so the issue may have already been resolved. Could it be that you saw an older version on your workmate's phone, darkpaw?

Why exactly do you want to ban it? Do you find it insulting? I don't think you would handle reading the real Qur'an then. If it offend you, don't use it or read it. Problem solved.

If this apps is simply a traduction of the Qur'an, it has the same rights as any other religious apps available on the iTunes store.

By the way: I'm Atheist.
 
I doubt they'll do anything because unfortunately they would be labeled as bigots if they try to censor it or criticize it, welcome to the land of the free ..however if you try to submit a South Park App that would be a big NO NO....definitely offensive!!:rolleyes:

I'll have to download it myself now, as not at work. Will find one and post it here. As the other poster has mentioned, it has been updated, so perhaps this is not a problem anymore. I'll check.

If it is or is not part of a religion, is irrelevant though; it should not give it carte blanche to insult and spread hatred to anyone. Freedom of religion, fine; freedom from religion, better. Freedom to disseminate biased, hateful text via the App Store? I thought Apple would be better than that, considering they banned the South Park app.

If I were to create an app that said "All followers of <choose any religion> are stupid pigs", would it get through or not?

They couldn't deny a religious book, and allow the flood of Bibles. Then they can't deny all religious apps, because there was never anything against it in their SDK Agreement. Are you going to go around burning all the Qurans just because it has 'hatred' towards non-Muslims? It's part of their holy book, you don't have to agree with it, but in America, you have to live with it.

Maybe I misread the original post, but I agree with the post above (a few posts above) that it seems like the concern is more with the translation than the content. Obviously if it is translated properly then the OP will just have to live with it (as would any one else.. agree or disagree) but if the translation is off then I suppose there is a concern.

It's the translation that's the problem, not the book (though I guess Geert Wilders, Christopher Hitchens, Robert Spencer, Mark Steyn et al would have something to say about that).

Clearly, you've not looked at the bible then either.
 
As I have stated, it was the translation that was the problem, not the book itself.

Please don't get this thread locked by bashing religions. I was simply pointing out that this application had some questionable content that Apple shouldn't have allowed through. It has been updated to remove those translations.

Since GuidedWays (creators of iQuran) are the people behind the reasonably successful 'Groups' application, I wonder what they've put in that app (joke).

The bible has many translations, which one is 'right?' I have not studied religions, but I would assume that all of the holy books (Bible, Torah, and Quran) have multiple translations. Sounds to me like the OP didn't like the translation provided because it talked bad about different religions.

OK, I'll bite. I know "the bible" you're likely talking about and how it condemns certain acts. That said, it doesn't have the kind of language stated by the OP. It's people who interpret bibles to meet their own needs that create problems for other "groups". But, that's not the point of this thread.

It sounds like the app has been updated, so your point is moot.

-- actually it's precisely the point, if it's the translation that's an issue. As you say, the app's been updated so it's a moot point now. Good thing too I say.

It wasn't my intention to drag the thread down so apologies to the people who have expressed that concern. I'd actually identify myself as a Christian (albeit an terribly lapsed and out of faith one) and my point was exactly about how things can be interpreted.

I would point this out on any app that promoted hatred against ANYONE - religious or not. The content of the original translation was FOUL. It has since been changed - which kinda highlights the fact that it was suspect.
