I have a airport express for my router in my house. I want to stream music from imac to my atv without putting the music on the atv hard drive. Can someone direct me how to do this via web site or just simple directions. thanks!

if you open itunes on the imac, i thought you could search for networked playlists etc from the atv and play it that way??

i dont have an atv so i cant help you anymore :(

Launch iTunes on the Mac and then on the Apple TV go to the "Settings" menu item (home screen on far right) and select "Computers." From there you can either sync (link) the Apple TV and Mac together or just share a library from a Mac that is connected to the same local network.

Apple has instructions on how to do this on their web site.

The Apple TV functions just like an airport express with airtunes enabled.

Just set up the aTV in iTunes, select it as a remote speaker in the lower right hand corner of Itunes on your mac, and away you go.

How do you normally do this? This is how ATV is designed to work...not the remote speaker side of things...which is possible too certainly, but using your ATV to play all the content on your iTunes library on your Mac. The remote speaker option is awkward, since you have to be in front of your iMac to use it...the whole point is to use your AppleTV to listen to your music library.

I assume it's already linked to your iMac/iTunes Library...which is what happens when you first set it up....entering the 5-digit code and all.

Go to your ATV in iTunes (same location where you find your iPhod or iPhone on the list on the left) click it, go to the Music tab and unclick where it says to sync certain playlists to your AppleTV. ALL your iTunes music will be available...streaming from your iMac to your AppleTV and not copied to your ATV. This is the way the ATV was designed to work. You can sync some stuff, but it will mirror and stream all your iTunes content.
