Seems like every time I agree to use authenticator app as a method of security I don't know what to do after that, I don't know which app I'm supposed to use I don't know if each place requires you use a certain authenticator; app i'm completely lost whenever I do this. I know about the built-in authenticator app in the settings of the iphone under passwords I think but it's not always there as in the code. I have a google authenticator app and a microsoft also.

And another question for those who only have cell phones, how do you

How do you login on Safari/Chrome when you have an app and it keeps opening the app? Do you know what I mean? I dont get it, EVERY time it opens the app when I try to use Chrome or Safari to go to Netflix for instance where you have to use a browser to work on your billing, most of them are like that.

There is an industry standard algorithm for authenticator apps. (If you like going down rabbit holes, you can read it here: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc6238 ) You can use the same one for all your sites and services.

I personally like the Authy authenticator app since it synchronizes authentication tokens to all my iOS and Android devices, but feel free to choose the one you like best.

Thanks for responding. I still don’t understand how when you agree to use an authenticator app for a app or service how you know which authenticator app you’ll be using after you agree because it doesn’t seem to assign one on my phone.

Last time I tried to use one I agreed to use an authenticator app for a bank or whatever and then it sent to code, but I don’t know where it sent it. I looked at all the Authenticator apps I had on my phone and it wasn’t anywhere.

When you choose to use an authenticator app on a new website or service, the site will display a QR code and a setup key on the screen. In your chosen authenticator app, click "add a new site" and either scan the QR code, or click add manually and enter the setup key.

From that point on, you can click on the name of the site/service on the authenticator app and it will display a six digit code that changes every 30 seconds. You'll need to enter that number once or twice during the initial setup, and henceforth every time you log into the site you'll need both your login credentials and the current six digit code displayed on the authenticator app to sign in.

How do I scan the code on the new site with the app when I’m using the same phone,
I don’t know how to physically do that.

The screen with the QR code should either display the setup key, or have a place to click, e.g., "Can't Scan It?" to display it. Use copy and paste to copy the setup key from the site and paste it into the authenticator app.
