Hey friends.

I’m collecting research data for a mini project on how people use their iPads, and I was curious to see how the users of MacRumors use their iPads! Excited to see the results.

For me, my iPad has completely replaced any laptop or other portable I’ve had. I still have my desktop, but when I’m not in my room my iPad is my main device. I use it for Microsoft Office work and even some low level Adobe work (Comp CC is a mini InDesign and I love it!).

So, how about you all?

Hey friends.

I’ve just finished researching and writing a 4000 word essay on my iPad Air 2. I use for most things that I do, except movie editing. I had a first generation iPad and used it daily for 2 years of university, I wrote over 40,000 words on it using the onscreen keyboard and an app Documents to go. I have Bluetooth keyboard for the air 2 now, but I can’t see anything that most people couldn’t do on it.

I use it for entertainment mostly but I have written a 6000 word document and researched for it in the course of my writing without a single problem. Battery lasts for a full day of heavy use easily, I've gotten 13-14 hours while researching and writing without issues.

As of a few weeks ago, I have a 12.9 that is my primary machine for work and some entertainment. I haven’t opened my MBP since I got the new iPad. I also have an Air2 that I use as a supplement for reference materials and for entertainment.

mainly for twitter notifications/browsing forums and sites and apps in general.

Use my macbook pro for times i'm on sites for longer. ipad is just easier to pick up when needed

I have two iPads, a 12.9” pro and a mini. I voted based on my pro, which I use primarily for productivity (art, writing, research, and email—with the smart keyboard). In rare cases, I use it for entertainment. My mini is used for entertainment, communication, and very light productivity.

My iPad pro is an important tool, but it’s not able to replace my mac for a few reasons:
- my work requires macOS applications
- my work requires powerful mac hardware
- my work requires large external displays
- extensive management of files and libraries
- ripping discs
- time machine versioned backups of all my files
- I find keyboard+trackpad (hardware and applications) more efficient for some things
