With the new iPad’s that were announced a few weeks ago, I was thinking it would be interesting to see a breakdown on how people use their iPads.

I don’t know. It is such a versatile product I can tick all of the above. Without keyboard and pencil I would say for consumption, but with them it becomes so much more.

I normally use my iPad as a media consumption, videos, YouTube, netflix, ebooks. Today I just installed a desktop on my windows computer and I will be using my ipad as my ”main” computer from now on. I feel like I unlocked the power of portability. I will no longer need to carry my MBA and iPad when traveling any longer.

I was going to try iPad + keyboard as my primary work device, just for the fun of it. But I've realized that there is no app on iPad similar to ollama that would allow me to download and run local LLMs. I use it heavily on my MacBook. So now I'm much less enthusiastic about the idea.

My iPad is my personal computer number one in the vast majority of my use cases. It’s there for journaling, apps, the web.

My main devices used in a day are my iPhone 15 Pro (6.1”), MacBook Pro (13”), and iPad Pro (12.9, now 13”).

My MacBook basically turns into a desktop and I sit down there when I have to get stuff done, have a typical office work flow.

My iPad i keep in the living room, pick it up to do quick tasks, and travel with it generally. I use it with the Magic Keyboard a lot of the time, but also take it in and out of a Zugu case when I expect the use to be more along the lines of content consumption.

How did I decide between the 9.7/10.5/11” form factors vs. 12.9/13”? I had both and after a year, the smaller iPad was collecting dust. I’d almost always just use my iPhone for anything I was thinking of using the 11” iPad for.

Haven’t touched my MacBook Pro since I finished school a couple years ago. I don’t do any professional work with my iPad. It’s just a personal device for me. But it does everything I need it to now.

For Personal use - as my primary computer - I don’t need anything else
Main uses
- Web browsing
- YouTube / Streaming video
- light gaming
- Social Media
- Occasional podcasts / Music
- Banking
- Personal Budget with Numbers

For professional use - as a companion to my desktop / work laptop
Main uses
- Teams / Outlook communication
- signing documents
- Note taking during meetings
- Sharepoint / Onedrive / Excel / Word / PowerPoint - reading reports + small adjustments
- Consolidation / D365 Finance and Operations (web Apps)

If I work from home I do quite a lot on the iPad with my home iMac with Universal control. When I’m in the office it’s more limited to signing docs and note taking. The windows Surface laptop and the 2 external displays are enough to work on.

Main device since 2018.
Basic Photo Editing and storing.
web browsing
youtube
Sky go and streaming apps.
work Online training and email checking
I could probably get away with a IPad Air but I just love the smoothness of the 120hz.
Might upgrade to a iPad Pro M4 later this year or next year. But my 2018 pro is still going strong yet. But I do fancy a OLED screen.

I have a M3 iMac and Windows laptop and use both. But, my iPad is, by far, my most used device. Even more than my iPhone.
