I have just downloaded a dvd onto my harddrive using mac the ripper. But now i don't know how to watch it. I am not interested in backing the files onto dvdr/w. I just want to be able to watch a movie when i go to the dominican republic next month without taking the dvd [ or copy of ].

Download VLC or similar player
Open the file that you ripped (probably a video_ts file).

If you have the VIDEO_TS folder from MacTheRipper, depending on the rip method you chose, you should be able to view it using DVD Player. Just choose File->Open DVD Media and select the VIDEO_TS folder. No additional software required :D If this doesn't work, try ripping the DVD using the default settings.

If you want to store lots of movies on the HDD you can use Handbrake to rip and compress them into H.264. Should be able to get them down to 1.5GB with decent quality.
Sure it takes a while to convert them. But then you'll have a really nice library of movies to take with you on the road.
