I just try to watch a VCD or a .dat format video with my powerbook. no application can watch it... which application should I use? DVD player should work but does not support the file format..

Like Arn said, you'll have to use VLC. But I'd also recommend going to Apple's feedback page and letting them know that you want VCD support. I did this just last night, but the more people the better.
