I be been reading articles about this 10 bit course depth and how it will be the first phone to use it . Sorry if this is a dumb question but what exactly does this offer ?

The HDR spec can support more colors

8 Bit: 16,777,216 colors
10 Bit: 1,073,741,824 colors

HDR 10 bit encoded content will have more dynamic range and better color accuracy when viewed on a display that can support it.

Only the iPhone 12 pro models will have the new 10 bit colour oled displays. The regular iPhone 12 will have the current 8 bit oled panels which are perfectly fine of course. Just over 1 billion colours on the pro models though, that’s gonna look amazing!!!
