iPhone 8/Plus How does Activation work in Apple Store pickup?

I am an AT&T Premier customer.

I plan to buy an iPhone 8 tomorrow online for instore pickup the same day.

I will put in my account details on the website when I buy it as the site says that will make the phone ready for activation on pickup.

My question is , how does this work in the Apple Store when I pick it up?

How reliable?

Very reliable. Doing the entire process on Apple is pain free and stress free and it only takes at most 10 minutes.

For in store pickup they usually give you 2 options for activation. You can either activate it on the spot with the employee or they give you an option where you can activate later on your own. But if you choose the activate on your own option they will still give you a date where it will activate on its own even if you don’t.
